A DANCING PEACOCK

Ashish: Briti! Is that you? What are doing here?
Hey, number 110034. I came here to welcome you, said Briti sarcastically.
Both the parents of Briti and Ashish were amazed listening to their children’s talk.

Sam (Briti’s father): Hey, Rao, (Ashish’s father). How was the journey?
Rao (Ashish’s father): It was good, how about yours? Have you introduced your daughter to my son before?
Sam: No! I thought you have done it.

Meanwhile Briti’s mother, Jaanya and Ashish’s mother were interacting with each other giving astonishment to the children. The teenagers there had collected the luggage and waiting for their parents to look for them.

Briti had called her dad and asked him to look around and see the time. Only then, had they realised that they were talking for a long time. They introduced their children to one another. When it was the time to introduce Briti to Ashish, they asked how they knew each other. Briti told them that they had met at examination centre and became friends. She added that he was the person whom she told about before as an addition to her friends group.

Both the families moved from there and checked in hotel that they pre-booked. They wanted to start their site seeing after the lunch. Meanwhile, Roshi, sister of Briti was asking about Ashish. Briti explained her, how they met and how they became friends.

Everyone was busy in freshing up and relaxing. They all met for lunch, had a lovely conversation over lunch and headed up to site seeing. All the children took pleasure to opt one car and the adults in another. They were talking, chatting, laughing, making lot of fun… enjoying their trip. Ashish was observing the laugh, the swing of the hair, naughty and cute facial expressions of Briti while he was making fun of his siblings and Briti’s. He couldn’t resist himself from looking at her. He was unable to take his eyes off from Briti. He wanted to see her smile, her laugh and her cute expressions. He was making lots of fun to see her smiling.

He never had such a feeling on Briti. He in fact never cared how she looks or how she speaks before. But now, in the land of someone he experienced some strange feeling.

Meanwhile, in the other car, Briti’s and Ashish’s parents are having their fun by remembering their memories of teenage and college days. They were all wondering, “How the days have passed. Our children came to the same age when we meet and became friends. Life is short. Though we met after a very long time, our friendship never faded as days did.”

Ashish’s father asked about Briti and her studies and her future plans. Briti’s father Sam said, “It’s up her. I don’t wanna disturb her. Let her go ahead according to her dreams. And I support her in her endeavours.”
“O! Very nice to hear. I really appreciate your decision” said Ashish father.
“Yes! Yes! Nice only. She is his apple of the eye know brother”, said sarcastically Briti’s mother.

“But Sam, I am asking about her marriage. Why don’t we become relatives and live together for long time than being friends? I think you got what I mean”, said Ashish father to Briti’s father Sam.

“That’s really a nice proposal but you know that we wanted to marry her off to our nephew, Sudeep who expired recently. She is still in that shock and recovering slowly. Moreover, I have no objection if our children like each other”, said Sam.

Ashish mother told, “Bhagwan ko laak laak shukriya karta hoon ye dosti rishta bangayea tho!” भगवन  को  लॉक  लॉक  शुक्रिया  करता  हूँ  ये  दोस्ती  रिश्ता  बनगए तो
(I thank God wholeheartedly if this friendship become relationship.)

Briti’s mother told, “They are going to complete their graduation in next year. Let’s wait and cross our fingers. I wish we became relatives.”
Ashish’s fun was making the children feel good. But as we all know that too much staring at a person will let the person know about it, Briti also felt something. She felt the eyes which are pointing towards her. By the time, she recognise that was Ashish, they reached the beautiful beach. So everyone got down from the two cars and elders are instructing youngers not to go long into the water. The youngsters letting those words fly in the air, started playing in water. And their parents sitting on Cabana beds (sun loungers) had an eye over them.

All of a sudden out of nowhere, it started raining. And everyone was running for shade and shelter. The youngsters are also running towards their parents. Ashish held the hand of Briti and was trying to run. But she broke away her hand from Ashish when she was a little far away from water and started dancing in the rain. She was enjoying every drop of rain that was touching her and she was playing with rain drop by waving her hands, jumping and moving round. She totally indulged in the act of playing in rain. Ashish who was just beside her was watching astonishingly.

Meanwhile, many people over there were capturing the dance in their smart phones. Jaanya was calling Briti to come but she gave no ear to anyone. Her dance was like a dance of peacock which dances before rain. But this peacock, Briti was dancing in rain. Her smooth beautiful hands were taking the pain of the rain drops when they touched her. Her rosy lips were hurt by the beads of rain which she was enjoying. Seeing Briti dancing in the rain and her stature in those wet clothes, Ashish’s ardour for her amplified. He was speechless. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He was totally spellbound by her graceful dance.

A Dancing Peacock

He was fighting with himself internally. He has an ardent feeling to propose her there and then itself. But he was conscious of their parents and the crowd. He was afraid of what if she says no. So he suppressed his feelings and started smiling to her dance. She looked at her and then recognised the surroundings and the smartphones which were pointing at her. She felt shy and stopped dancing. Everyone lauded her with their claps. She hid behind Ashish holding his hand tight in nervousness.

Ashish got goosebumps out of that sudden action. He became standstill. He felt something strange feeling in his heart. He was indulging in at very moment, when Briti slowly came front and thanked the crowd. She held Ashish’s hand who was still standstill and walked towards her parents. Ashish was still amazed and was seeing Briti who held his hand.

Meanwhile, their parents are very happy to see Ashish and Briti together. They felt their wish would come true. Briti reached her parents and hugged her mother, leaving Ashish’s hand. Jaanya, raised her hand to beat Briti in a naught motion but when Briti was frightened kissed her forehead instead.

Ashish’s parents having learnt from his face and his expression towards Briti found out that he loves Briti.

What will Ashish do now?
Will he proposes Briti?
Will Briti accept Ashish?

What do you think?

NUMBER 110034

“Who is this number 110034?” asked Briti. The students in the hall became dumb. There were 10 minutes more for the exam to start. The invigilator came into the hall. Everyone wished her. She had checked every bench for any slips or writings on the benches. Five minutes to go! She started giving answer sheets while taking the attendance simultaneously. Almost every bench was filled except one. She read the hall ticket number written on it “Number 110034. Who is this?”

Everyone looked at Briti at once and immediately at the invigilator in silence marking “we don’t know”. The clock is ticking; there are only two minutes. The invigilator took the question papers into her hands and was getting ready to distribute was only awaiting the bell. All were ready. No sooner had the invigilator started distributing the question paper than she heard a voice “May I come in ma’am?” There stood a boy who is tall, fit and handsome. He had a baby face which scintillating eyes.

She turned back and gestured her hand as a permission to get in. As soon as he entered the room, all the other students in the hall looked at him and then at Briti signalling her that he is number 110034. Briti nodded to them and started writing the exam. The invigilator having completed the distribution of question papers approached the boy who entered the hall and asked “What’s your number? Where is your hall ticket? Why are you late?” The boy said, “Ma’am, my number is 110034. After entering the exam hall, I remembered that I have forgotten my hall ticket in the pouch of my bike, so I have gone to parking area to get it back. Hence I am late and here is my hall ticket.” “Ok, ok. Carry on with your exam”, said the invigilator. Briti gave her ear to that conversation between them while she was answering the questions.

The time was passing… it’s already been two and half hours. There was 30 minutes left over. All students were busy writing the answers to finish their exam. The time had come. The invigilator asked them to stop writing and submit answer sheets and they did the same.

Everyone started leaving the hall after submitting their answer sheets. Briti who was in a line to submit her answer sheets, kept an eye on number 110034 who was submitting his paper then. He was moving out of the hall when Briti rushed to her bench to collect her belongings. She ran out of the hall searching for him. She found him and called, “Hey… hello… You! Number 110034.” The boy turned back and saw a pretty girl who was articulating his number from her cherry lips. He shocked to see Briti approaching him with her angry face.

Briti said to him, “Hey, you. You have made be almost fall down by dashing and you left the hall without even saying sorry. Whatever maybe the reason of your hurriedness, you should have a minimum manners of saying sorry, haven’t you?” Meanwhile, Briti’s friends found her out and reached her. The boy, who was astonished at Briti’s behaviour said, “I am extremely sorry. It was in a hurry to get my hall ticket. I don’t know that I hurt you. My sincere apologies! By the by, I am Ashish.” Briti accepted his apology and introduced herself. The friends of Briti who were there at that scene were overtaken by Ashish’s fascinating charm and were staring at him during the conversation. As soon as he left, they started questioning Briti about his whereabouts and how she met him. Briti explained them what had happened.

It had been routine for both Briti and Ashish to wish “All the best” and “Good bye” before and after the exam. They became good friends. Briti’s friend Meetha was madly attracted to Ashish’s charm and his smile whereas Ashish grew much affection towards Briti. Days passed on… exams completed… a new member had joined the group. His joining the group made girls excited and boys fill with jealousy.

It’s time for tours as summer vacations began. So all the friends were apart from one another for 45 days. During the vacation Briti went to her granny’s place where she spent her days in the memories of Sudeep and in the love and care of her grandparents. But she had spent hardly 10 days. She was called back home by her father. There was a surprise tour planned by his father to overseas, that too her favourite beach holiday. All got set right.

The family reached their destination. They were waiting at the luggage belt to pick their luggage up. Surprisingly, Briti saw Ashish… number 110034 in front of her; the other side of that luggage belt. Hardly had she confirmed that it was Ashish when Ashish called Briti.

Why was Ashish present there?

Did he know that Briti was going there?

What had happened?

THAT IS HOW IT ALL STARTED

Rithika gave a surprise look at me, said Amar. She smiled and said “Child! My child!! Nooo… You are mistaken. She is my sister’s child. She is two years old.” It was a great relief to me. I had taken a long breath and my heart started beating normal again, said Amar. Briti interrupted and asked curiously, “Did you take her phone number? Did you meet her later?” Wait! Let me guess said Meetha and told them that Amar might not have taken her number directly but asked his school friends after he went home. “Am I right?” asked Meetha. No! Not really…said Amar, for which Meetha made a tiresome sound.

Amar said Rithika had taken my number. This made both Briti and Meetha baffled. Amar continued saying about Rithika that they both had exchanged some text messages from almost two months from the day she took his number. They both were very friendly and used to share everything. Meetha interrupted saying, “Then, what’s your problem? Why are you looking sad? Did you propose her? Did she reject your proposal?” Amar said, “I thought of proposing her many times. I even tried to propose her whenever I visited my village. But I couldn’t do it as I forget my world and my surrounding when I am with her. I only try to feel her smile, her words and her beautiful eyes.” “O! Is that your problem? You are unable to propose her. We are there know to help you”, said one of the boys in the group. Amar said, “No! No so. Once I took a greeting card with red roses and her favourite chocolate to propose her.”

Briti: O, really! What happened then?

Amar: That is the worst day that I have ever thought of facing.

Meetha: Did she reject your proposal?

Amar: No! I didn’t propose her that day.

Boys: Why? What happened on that day?

Amar: I met her as usual at the backside of the temple. She came there in a green half-saree which suited her very well. She looked flawless in that attire. She carried a book and a card which I mistook as a greeting card. I am very happy seeing her in that attire and with that card thinking that she also has same feeling like I do. We both were very happy seeing each other. We both at a time said to each other, “I wanna say something to you.”

Rithika: You say first.

Amar: No! You say first.

Rithika: No! You.

Amar: No… no… You have to say. That’s it.

Rithika: Ok. (shying) Whatever I wanted to say is there in this card. You only see.

Amar said I am very excited seeing her like that. Shying… smiling… the blush on her cheeks when she was smiling with shy... O God! What can I say!!! I opened the card and shocked to see that. It’s…. it’s not a greeting card. It’s a wedding invitation.

Rithika: I am giving the first card to you.

Amar continued saying to his friends - I didn’t know what to do. I shouted and cried louder in my heart. I consoled myself and acted happy. I gave her the red roses and her favourite chocolate which I hide from her sight and wished her congratulations. Rithika said thanks and made me promise her that I’ll attend her marriage without fail.

Then, she asked me what I wanted to say. I told that I wanted to congratulate her for her marriage date fixing as I heard it from some friends and I also added that, that is the reason I brought the flowers and chocolate. She believed what I had said and felt very happy. Only then, I have understood that she had no feelings on me.

She left the place and I with a broken heart cried and cried seeing the greeting card which I didn’t give her, which I kept in my jacket. I am unable to digest it. My first crush… my first love… my childhood friend… is going away from me…. She is going to get married soon… cried Amar.

Meetha: When is the marriage?

Amar: Right after our exams. April 25!

Briti: Amar, it’s all your mistake. You didn’t let Rithika know about your love. You didn’t propose her. How can she know about your feelings if you were looking her or staring at her?

Briti even uttered firmly that:

Love is to be expressed.

Love should be felt by your actions.

Love can’t be known clearly until you show it.

Love should not be kept in heart.
That Is How It All Started

Don’t say that you love him/her so much.

Just show it(Love). Show him/her how much you love.

You need not give expensive gifts all the time to show your love.

A flower in your garden or

A letter with your expressions in your writing or

A dish which you cooked or

A small present which you made on your own with recycled things…

Moreover, your soothing words all the time…

They are enough for any person to know and feel your love.

Love should be exhibited in every possible way.

If you do so, the other person feels how importance you are giving and you will give to him/her in your life.

Remember one thing,

OUR PARENTS WILL BE WITH US ONLY TILL WE GET MARRIED, OUR CHILDREN WILL BE WITH US ONLY TILL THEY GET MARRIED; BUT IT IS ONLY YOUR LIFE PARTNER WHO HOLDS YOUR HAND TILL HE OR SHE LEAVES THIS WORLD.

By saying this Briti exhibited her pain and her love for Sudeep.

Briti and other friends consoled Amar not to worry and said “Maybe Rithika is not your life partner; as you rightly said she is your first crush, your childhood friend. Wait for the girl who belongs to you. Read well and get settled so that you can look after the love of your life well. Let us all first concentrate on our studies and settle down. Let us promise to ourselves today that we will not be disturbed by anything and focus on our career.” Promise! Promise! Promise! Me too Promise! I too join my hands Promise! Promise! Promise! … all the hands joined in promise there comes Amar’s hand above all at the end. Amar seemed to be consoled and lifted out from the burden on his heart, the very pain of his heart.

“Exams are ahead. There are not even a week days. So guys, lets aim at getting good marks”, added Meetha.

All were very much focused on their studies. The week days went on just like a couple days. Amar, by keeping the marriage of his crush aside, was busy discussing the subject and clarifying the doubts of his friends. The next day was the first exam. All the friends prepared well with their armour of knowledge to face the exam.

Luckily all got the same exam centre. So that they can meet and share how they fared. Exam centre is same but halls are different. So they departed to their respective halls allocated to them. Briti’s hall number is 4. She entered her exam hall. There comes this guy who dashed Briti while entering the hall. While Briti was entering the hall, he was leaving the hall in a hurry. He didn’t even turn back and said sorry. Briti felt irritated but as he already left the class by the time she turned back she walked towards her seat and sat. When enquired, who he was the other students in the hall said his number is 110034.

Who is this number 110034?

Why did he leave the exam hall in hurry?

Let us see it in the next article.
